Now that the Knicks are eliminated from the NBA Playoffs, many of you will be looking for teams to root for. I suggest 4 teams worthy of following:

the Denver Nuggets (my favorite now), the Phiadelphia 76ers, the Memphis Grizzlies and the Indiana Pacers. Why? Because these are TEAMS without superstars.

In today’s “nuclear arms race” to see how many superstars one can put on one team, I LOVE that the aforementioned teams are deep with talented, diverse good (but not GREAT) players. These teams do not count on one or two players doing all the shooting. They have many players, mostly well-rounded, playing unselfishly and often have different leading scorers on different nights. Another team I enjoy, who just about fits in the same category, is the San Antonio Spurs.

While Tim Duncan has been a superstar, it is hard to say that he is still one today. Tony Parker is great, but one usually does not have him mentioned with Derrick Rose, Deron Williams, Chris Paul or even Steve Nash. The Spurs have blended young, spry players to augment and mesh with their aging vets (like Duncan and Ginoboli). I am hoping that one of the teams from this group makes a long playoff run.

Brant Laker Jason Gillet (95′- present) of Moving Pictures is proud to announce that the company’s award-winning documentary Never Stand Still will be having its NYC theatrical release at the Quad Cinema located at 34 W 13th Street on May 18 – May 24, 2012. Jason was involved with the film since its inception as a sound engineer and throughout the editorial process. Sharon Gersten Luckman also has a connection to the film as Judith Jamison and the Alvin Ailey Company are profiled in the film. Brant Laker Danny Linell’s Hockey Team in NCAA Div.1 Finals

Some exciting news to report that former Brant Laker Danny Linell’s Boston College hockey team has made it to the finals of the NCAA Division 1 Hockey Championships being played tonight, Saturday, April 7th at 7:00 PM on ESPN.

Danny is a freshman playing on the top ranked team in the nation after an outstanding career at Choate. He also played this past year in the New York Islander’s Rookie Camp camp in Nassau Coliseum.

In a recent Facebook post he said he was– “hoping I can bring a national championship ring to BLC this summer.

BLC Director Andy Berlin’s swim team makes waves at County Championship swim meet!

BLC director, coach Andy Berlin, boys swim team swam phenomenally this weekend and won their fourth consecutive County Championship. Along the way they broke four County records. with their fantastic performances they have qualified eight boys for the State Championships in Buffalo on March 2nd and 3rd. His very impressive team, all swam personal bests on the Friday’s trials and then all came back on Saturday and swam even faster, 100% personal bests all over again. A great finish for his group of senior boys who have never lost a dual or championship meet in their high school careers! Congratulations Andy!

Information Booklets are out

Last night all parents of campers should have received an email with the 2012 Camper Information Booklet attached as well as instructions on how to access our online documents and forms.

If you are a parent of an enrolled camper and you did not receive this email please contact the Camp Office.

We are really looking forward to seeing your boys at camp this summer.

Messages from Coach John Wooden

I hope you enjoy this wonderful speech by John Wooden, a truly exceptional man and former UCLA basketball coach. The messages that Coach Wooden relates remind me of those from two of the men who have been most inspirational to me: Dean Smith, the great, former coach of North Carolina, and my father, Bobby Gersten.

Dean Smith had a saying that “Tardiness is the height of egotism, as its message is that my time is important and yours is not.”

Coach Wooden’s view on competition mirror that which we seek and usually attain with Green and Gray – it’s the effort that is most important, or as Bobby G says each year – “The scoreboard is incidental. Victory is in the heart. It is earned in the hard, clean fight and the knowledge that you have done your best.”
